"If your friend is already dead, and being eaten by vultures, I think it's okay to feed some bits of your friend to one of the vultures, to teach him to do some tricks. But ONLY if you're serious about adopting the vulture." (Jack Handy). Friends, this is My Pet Vulture.

LTMHTF Podcast: VD, and other ailments associated with love
It's February so, naturally, I had to endure two "romantic" movies for this month's Love This Movie, Hate This Film with Zalina Alvi. Thankfully one of them was the pinnacle of romance on film, Casablanca. The other was a Richard Gere movie. Head on over to Love This Movie, Hate This Film's blog for some entertaining squabbling over whether or not Julia Roberts' prostitute would have been better if she was a cocaine addict and had more realistic sex, and Zalina using a politically incorrect term for little people.

LTMHTF Podcast: The similarities are endless...
Bob Dylan: A rebel (part of the folk protest movement in the '60s), a hero (when Dylan went electric), a villain (when Dylan went electric), writer of literature, has taken to wearing a large sombrero to distract from aging features.
KISS: a group of rebels (played rock music when disco dance music was popular - before recording a disco song of their own, but whatever), heroes to some (even had an army at their command), villain to others (uptight moms, people with taste), some of them wrote books, make-up now provides useful tool for masking aging features.
Clearly, Dylan and KISS are ripe for comparison. Naturally, Zalina Alvi and I saw this opportunity and have used our podcast, Love This Movie, Hate This Film, to explore their similarities through the films I'm Not There and Detroit Rock City. Click on through to be amazed, and don't forget to subscribe via iTunes.

Podcast: the sawing your foot off, pickaxe to the knee edition
First, let me say this: life has been busy lately, and I have so many things to tell you, blog. However, that will have to wait untill after I pimp my and Zalina's latest Love This Movie, Hate This Film podcast. It's the Halloween edition of LTMHTF, and things get pretty heated when The 2005 spelunking horror flick The Descent and the 2004 franchise-starting behemoth Saw go head to head in a fight that pits good stagecraft with bloody-bloody-gore-gore-fun-times.
Even more exciting news, LTMHTF is now searchable on iTunes! Looks like we've made it, friends.

New podcast is bourne to entertain
Podcast #5 is up and waiting for you to enjoy. Zalina and I have given Love This Movie, Hate This Film it's own website, and we've even attached it to an RSS feed, which you can sync to your iTunes (or whatever you use for podcast stuffs).
If the pun in headline didn't tip you off, this edition is all about the Bourne trilogy. There's some disagreements over the definition of "ultimatum" (not exactly in dispute, but still, isn't that a stupid name for an action/thriller?), there's even some informative play-by-play commentary over one of the films' hot man-on-man fight scenes.
Soon we'll have LTMHTF searchable on iTunes. And then - watch out! We'll have hit the big time. Until then, click on over and check it out.

"There is no Spoon" - Podcast #3, in a somewhat delayed reaction
So Zalina Alvi and I have a little podcast thing going on (doesn't everyone?), and we posted the third instalment a little over a week ago. If you've been following Love This Movie, Hate This Film you'd know that the premise is that Zalina and I don't always agree on the worth of certain films, and we like to argue about said films (to comic effect - we think...). If you listened to podcast #2 (Empire Records VS. Dazed and Confused) you might be surprised at our topic for #3 (embarassing disclosure: we agreed too much on our original topic)! Listen, enjoy, and let us know what we should discuss next.

NXNE and other news
The North By Northeast Music Festival is upon us again, and for the first time in years I'm actually going to see some of the acts! The last time that I made it out to NXNE I was supplied with a press lanyard and the wide-eyed enthusiasm of a newbie journalist. Since then my cynicism has grown and my tolerance for late night rock-n-roll parties has sadly diminished. Despite my natural want for a decent night's sleep I've decided to gung-ho this year's festival and see as many performances as I can with a wristband. That's right, I'll have to wait in line with the rest of the plebs. I'll also be checking out this week's major event - the Olympic Island show taking place this Saturday with Broken Social Scene, Beach House, and headliners Pavement. While I never got into Pavement during my disaffected youth, I hear that this show will be one to remember so I'm looking forward to it. I hope to write daily reviews for My Pet Vulture on everything I see for the next five days, so look for something tomorrow on whatever I get up to tonight.
In other news, I've started a podcast with one of my best friends, Zalina Alvi. It's called Love This Movie, Hate This Film and it's hosted over on her site. Ever had a friend who just couldn't see sense when it came to movies? Like, they watch a lot, but they just don't seem to get how one film is good and another is most definitely not? Well, that's Zalina and because we're such good friends we can tear each other a new one without causing any permanent damage (a scrape here, a chunk of missing hair there, nothing a little concealer can't handle). There are two up so far so if you haven't already, you should really check them out.
This summer will be packed with concerts (I've already been to three I haven't had the chance to review here - The Weakerthans, My Brightest Diamond, and The National - but a piece on The National is forthcoming, so stay tuned!). I've got Blitzen Trapper, Arcade Fire, and Dirty Projectors all lined up for later this summer, so hopefully one or all of those will warrant a post. I've also got some non-music themed posts planned - another thing to stay on the edge of your seat for. It'll be a good summer, promise.
